Nikkie Buskermolen is a PhD candidate at the Institute of Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology of Leiden University, researching how insurance plays a role in daily life. Her PhD research project is part of the European Research Counsel, Consolidator Grant Moralising Misfortune. She holds an MA in Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology (Leiden University).
Nikkie Buskermolen’s MA project was on young professionals in Amsterdam who, for the first time in their life, take out a mortgage. She was interested in how people took out this loan, how it was part of expectations of the future, and how this was justified in light of the economic crisis.
